Charlson Broadcast Technologies has chosen the Telex Communications, RTS TW intercom system to outfit its two new broadcast production trucks that cover horseracing at Ellis Park. Recently completed, the Telex installation is being used for communication between the 11 camera positions; studio simulcast control room and the new Charlson Broadcast live video production truck. Churchill Downs acquired Ellis Park in 1998.
“The Telex RTS system was chosen for both of the new CBT production trucks because of its reliability, flexibility, dependability and clarity,” explains Ron Thomas; systems engineer for Erlanger, KY based Charlson Broadcast Technologies. “The system is performing well and after the initial power-up not a thing has been changed.”
The Telex gear in use at Ellis Park consists of a PS-31 power supply, two SAP-612 assignment panels, seven MCE-325 programmable user stations, 13 BP-325 two-channel beltpack stations, a 4010 4 IFB central electronics station, and two 4001 IFB control stations. Two RadioCom™ TT-44 wireless IFB transmitters with HGA-1 high-gain antennas and three TR-34 wireless IFB receivers make up the wireless IFB requirement.

The MCE-325 is a four-channel, user-programmable intercom station that features a modular packaging technique. It can be utilized in any one of five package arrangements; rackmount or portable headset stations, rackmount or portable speaker station and console-mount headset station. The BP-325 is the top-end of the RTS TW beltpack line and is fully programmable with features including call-signal, momentary/latching talk keys and program input.
“The Telex staff was great to work with, especially product specialist Paulette Wilkins,” says Thomas. “She and the rest of the staff worked very hard to ensure that the equipment I needed was right where it needed to be – in the Charlson production truck”.
