1 February 2010
Not only is the Africa Cup, which ran until the 31st January 2010, in itself one of the footballing highlights of the year; the 32-match tournament was also treated as a dress rehearsal for the FIFA World Cup in South Africa in June. The level of expenditure being lavished on the organization and broadcasting of the event reflects the two realities.

The Mediapro Group was responsible for complete audiovisual production of the event. The company, which was founded in Spain, now boasts content and technical production centres across the globe and is active worldwide. For the Africa Cup, the company covered the entire spectrum of audiovisual services. This included audiovisual production, preparation of the graphics and transmission of the signals from each match to the host broadcaster – a responsibility that is not only multi-facetted but demanding, requiring the deployment of considerable manpower and the use of the most modern and efficient technology. For this reason, the over 150-man Mediapro team from Spain and Portugal – armed with four HD units, four mobile units and 68 cameras – was reinforced by colleagues from the region.

Two production teams led by Juan Figueroa were responsible for the production of the 32 matches. To ensure that no detail of these encounters went unrecorded, no fewer than 17 high definition cameras were deployed for every match – to the considerable satisfaction of the billions following the event on TV screens throughout the world. The sound and images were recorded, edited and transmitted to the host broadcaster from outside broadcast (OB) trucks at the match venues. A key role was played here by systems from RTS. In all the OB vehicles belonging to the Spanish media giant, matrices and keypanels from RTS were installed. This included digital matrices from the Cronus and ADAM series and keypanels from the RTS KP series (KP-12, KP-32).
