The Department of Pediatric Oncology at Amsterdam’s Emma Children’s Hospital, which is attached to the University of Amsterdam’s Academic Medical Centre, boasts an unusual facility: a TV studio in the basement from which programs are produced by and for children suffering from cancer. RTS and Axon, the company’s distribution partner in the Netherlands, are supporting this humanitarian project by providing the children’s hospital with equipment and know-how.
Axon, RTS’s distributor in the Netherlands, has made available equipment from RTS, including a digital Cronus DSP intercom matrix and two keypanels (KP12 and KP32), to ensure the smooth running of the local productions. The modular structure, easy handling and numerous DSP-controlled functions offered by RTS systems contribute significantly to the quality of the programs produced by Emma TV. “Emma TV is a really wonderful project,” says Johan Lieffers of Axon. “It does something to ease the suffering of these brave children. We’re proud to be able to make a contribution.”

Three times a week in the basement of the Emma Children’s Hospital in Amsterdam, a one-hour program is produced by patients at the Department of Pediatric Oncology for broadcast throughout the hospital: “Confetti”, which screens at 3 p.m. on Mondays, is for the very youngest patients; “Babbels”, which airs on Wednesdays at the same time, is for patients ages six to 12; and “Strak” on Friday evenings at 8 p.m. for teenagers. The children have the choice of following the programs live on bedside televisions or attending the broadcasts as studio guests. Each program is retransmitted several times later in the week for children who may have missed the live transmission. The Transport Department of the Cook Children’s Medical Center, in Fort Worth, Texas, recently migrated from an analog dispatch console system to a fully IP-based Telex solution.
Cook Children’s Transport Department, also known as “Teddy Bear Transport,” provides pediatric and neonatal critical care transport via five ground ambulances, a helicopter, and a fixed-wing aircraft across a 17 county referral area as well as other areas within North Central and West Texas and Southern Oklahoma.

Bosch Security Systems, Inc., Communications Systems Division recently assigned Nicolas Betancur as its new Field Sales Engineer, Communications – South. Betancur, who has worked for Bosch since 2006, will be based in Houston, Texas, and his responsibilities will include system design and sales support for Bosch Public Address and Conferencing, Electro-Voice, and Telex Intercom and Radio Dispatch customers in the Houston, San Antonio, and Southern Louisiana area.

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia outfitted their Cardiac Catheterization Lab with a state-of-the-art intercom system from RTS Digital Matrix and Telex. A Cardiac Catheterization Lab, or Cath Lab, is a specially equipped examination room designed for performing coronary catheterizations; a minimally invasive procedure that can diagnose or treat heart conditions.
